National Injury Prevention Programs
Think
First for Kids
Presented
in a classroom format
- Each grade (1-3)
has a separate curriculum w/ activities designed for its grade
level
- Activities integrated
into math & science
- Educates students
about activities which place them at risk for brain or spinal
cord injury
- Consists of 12-minute
culturally diverse video & 5 safety modules
- Vehicular
safety
- Water Safety
- Bicycle Safety
- Violence
- Sports/recreational
safety
- 5 safety modules
supplemented with hands-on activities & reinforcement strategies
- An evidenced-based,
fun, meaningful experience for students in grades 1-3, teachers,
parents and the community
- GOAL: To help
students develop safety habits that will minimize their risks
of sustaining a brain or spinal cord injury
Think First for
Teens
Upbeat
program educates high school students about personal vulnerability
& risk-taking
- Message is "You
can have a fun, exciting life, and you can do it without hurting
yourself if you "THINK FIRST" and use your mind to protect
your body"
- Brings an understanding
of the causes & results of injuries to the brain & spinal
cord & addresses strategies for prevention
- Presentation
includes participation of a brain or spinal cord injured person
who shares real-life experiences w/ teens
- Goal: To reach
those most vulnerable to brain, spinal cord & other traumatic
injuries with a powerful prevention message
