Rehabilitation
Cardiac
rehabilitation is a program of progressive, monitored exercise and
classes ordered by your physician to teach you what you need to
know after your heart attack or heart surgery. Instruction on heart
disease and lifestyle changes starts at your bedside. Once you are
discharged, the program continues in an outpatient setting for 12
to 36 visits. During this Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation Program,
advanced cardiac life support-certified nurses will provide a thorough
initial evaluation to determine your exercise and educational needs.
They will ensure you progress through the program as safely and
effectively as possible.
Exercise
and lifestyle changes should become part of your healthy, new way
of life. Memorial's Cardiac Rehabilitation Program takes a comprehensive
approach to cardiac health, focusing on your overall needs. You'll
develop a relationship with health care professionals who will follow
you through the entire program and connect you with other community
services to help you meet your goals.
Good
heart health combines education and exercise to help your physical
functioning. We hope to change behaviors that lead to the progression
of heart disease. The educational component of the program includes
information on nutrition, diabetes and hypertension management,
stress management and stopping tobacco use.
The
nutrition segment of the program includes a private session with
a dietitian, a dietitian-led group grocery store tour and information
on choosing and preparing heart-healthy meals at home. You'll develop
heart-healthy behaviors to help you lose or control your weight
and improve your cholesterol and lipid levels.
You'll
also learn a low-stress approach to living. This therapy provides
a new way of thinking about your day-to-day life. Our program is
taught by professionals who specialize in teaching health-enhancing,
life-changing strategies.
